2009 Racing Season
Welcome to the recap of my 2009 racing season. This page highlights the races, and memorable moments during an action-packed year on the track. As the first season of fantasy racing, it was an extremely small field but that would be rectified in the coming years. To be fair however, the core group here would go on to have incredible success, and sustained it, even when the field became larger than Nascar fields. In fact 5 of the original 12 have been inducted into the Hall of Fame thanks in part to winning titles with full fields, while two others have won championships and another has a regular season title and is top 5 all-time in wins.
The setup for the 2009 season was each week we would take 3 drivers. However these were based on the qualifying of the 43 nascar cars each week. So we would take someone who qualified from 1-15, another from those who qualified 16-30 and the last from those who qualified from 31-43. Also at this point, the way Nascar gave out points was points to who led a lap, who led the most laps and if I remember, 180 base points to the winner. So the point totals were much higher than todays. Also, we just simply added up what points our drivers got and that would be our points. We didn’t get 50 season points for a win and so on. If our drivers added up to 430 points, we got 430 points. I very much enjoy the setup that we use today instead. Also, if you missed the race, you would get the last place finishers points, minus 10. Again, I much more enjoy the current one and enjoy more that you don’t get anything if you don’t participate. Also, there were no tiebreakers, so multiple people could, and did sometimes, get wins in the same week.
While we have always looked at who is the Cup champion, I have never forgot the other formats used by Nascar and I reward each one. I believe it’s only right. I also have put those not in the playoffs, or been eliminated, into other brackets to give them something to play for. They have no real value other than the small joy of seeing yourself defeat others in something.

The 2009 playoffs were initially a “final four” type of elimination style, many years before nascar. The regular season went 30 races and there were eliminations after three races, then two races, then the finals. While I would win, I didn’t completely care for the setup looking back and I went back through the numbers to look at a Nextel type full playoff champion. It didn’t change the result, but I had to see what the numbers would show me. Initially, Larry made my “Cup” playoffs so that’s what I will show. There were only 6 but I didn’t think that was fair. Mandi Suomi had raced the first two races before I couldn’t get a hold of her and I wanted at least 12 so I asked Larry. He agreed when I said he would take over Mandi’s points. A sort of owners championship I guess came out of it. Hence too my full playoff Nextel title I handed out years and years later. Also, Jordan had missed a race for something out of his control, so I had created the -10 off of the worst lineup as what you would get if you had missed a race, so you wouldn’t get zero. But seeing as that wasn’t in play to start the year, if you took those points out, and Mandi’s from Larry, both would have missed the playoffs. So I stripped me of the title again, and added the other two people who should have been in and those results are what you see below. And in this case too, I ruined everything and still won. I stripped myself twice and still held on. And if you’re reading this and suddenly sick to your stomach over the thought of me stripping, I certainly apologize for the trauma. Onto the results however:

Cup Mania 1
The (Sprint) Cup Mania is a series of events that I came up with honoring many of the original core members of the league who also had a great love for wrestling. Overall it would come to be different events based off of things that they do in wrestling. A King/Queen of the Ring one vs. one tournament to crown royalty. A Royal Rumble where the participants are randomly drawn into the “ring” at random intervals and the lowest couple are eliminated while more come in each week until there is one winner. A Survivor Series where small teams battle other teams with eliminations happening each week to the lowest scorers until only one team is left. There is also a Tag Team tournament where two people team up and face others in a bracket style elimination tournament, like the King/Queen, with the winners being crowned champions. I did add the All-Star race into the “events” afterwards because with too many people eventually in the league it became too much to have people pick their own and these events are nothing that anyone does themselves. At the beginning of each season I make the schedule of events and as your name is called up or when the events are taking place I use your actual race results for those results. So not only is your participation rewarded with these extra things that really only had decent meaning when I had a website previously where each person had their own page to show their accomplishments, but if I missed anything I could just go back and do it later because as I mentioned, I just use your race results. The first Mania initially was in 2011, but I would go back in time eventually and go through a couple events in 2009 and 2010 because I did have those race results to use. Throughout the years some of the ways I did the events would change, as with more people I needed more eliminations more quickly but especially early on, if you were teamed with people they could save you from being eliminated if they had won the actual race.
